Dr Robert Combes, who was FRAME’s Scientific Director (and later Director) from 1994 to 2008, died on Sunday 6 June 2021, as a result of a pulmonary embolism. He was an ongoing active member of the Alternatives to Laboratory Animals (ATLA) Editorial Board, as well as being an Associate Editor for the journal throughout his time at FRAME.
Before he became director of FRAME Robert was active in the genetic toxicology community and a frequent presenter at UKEMS and international meetings. He was a working group member on the first ever UKEMS guidelines and will be remembered for his contributions to the field.
